I would like to be able to see a list of people I have blocked, just in case I changed my mind on them. DCAllen is one that had previously had blocked but have unblocked recently… and only because I went to his page and saw that I had blocked him. I didn’t even remember that I did.

It would be nice to see who has blocked me as well. If only for curiosity purposes at least. (For me, so I can see if there is a commonality between them – ie I have reviewed them, and they felt I was especially harsh?)

Thank you.

Hi Squarehopper,
Hmmmmm, you blocked me, did you? Maybe you didn’t; maybe I blocked you. :))))) Have we reached the point that we can laugh about it? I hope so.

I would love to see who has blocked me too, but I’m not sure if this is possible or appropriate. On the other hand, I’d like to have a list of people I’ve blocked so that I can decide if I want to unblock them later – maybe a year later when I’ve forgotten they exist.

Ahhh, you unblocked me, Squarehopper? Really?

Yes, this is on the list.

Yes I unblocked you. And yes we can laugh about it now.

Hey, whatever happened with this? I want to know how many people I have blocked so I can tell DCAllen and he can be proud of me. I need validation from strangers.

Avatar JCAllen 1022 posts

I’m proud of you, tia.

Oh thank god. Maybe now I can sleep at night!

I’d really like to see this feature as well. Both the list of who I’ve blocked, and who’s blocked me (or at least how many people).

I also am throwing in my support of this feature :)

Hmmm . . . McCarthyism anyone?

Purely speculation on my part, but this would make it way too easy to create a kind of master blacklist that would allow for a huge rift between Urbis members. I’m talking about hierarchy, snobbishness, and the people (less experienced or purely genre reviewers) who get unfairly shafted by a lot of good reviewers because they were branded a bad reviewer by one person.

Needless to say, I think this would hurt newer members and Urbis as a whole.

Avatar Llama Metal 567 posts

It doesn’t have to be a public list, Curt. Just a list (on the user’s homepage) that says who they’ve blocked.

Avatar Curtastrophe 581 posts

Yep, but the thing is that people would/could end up sharing the list.

The only marginally useful benefit I see people getting from this is the case that SH mentioned.

Everybody wants Urbis to have new features and bells and whistles. I understand. But at the same time, I think there are more pressing issues at hand. Like being able to preview comments before posting them.

That’s kind of why I want it. I mean, I’ve blocked plenty of people. Some of them stick out in my mind, because they are not exactly high-society reviewers.

But, there are some that I probably blocked out of being a ornery little tosspot and I probably should unblock them, but I don’t know who they are.

Avatar Curtastrophe 581 posts

That’s my point though . . . If you and I and everyone else on this thread compiled and pooled our respective blocked members list because they weren’t exactly high-society reviewers, what would happen? It would insulate the more experienced reviewers on one side of the gap and isolate everybody else on the other. Of course that’s putting it in an extreme scenario, but if the vehement rants by forums users about bad reviewers are any indication of the larger Urbis mentality, something similar to this isn’t that difficult to conceive of.

“But, there are some that I probably blocked out of being a ornery little tosspot and I probably should unblock them, but I don’t know who they are.”

Right, like Squarehopper said. Still, in my mind this end isn’t justified by the possibility of potentially great writers never getting reviews because they had a bad day and were put on some kind of neo-McCarthy blacklist.

Avatar Llama Metal 567 posts

But, we know who some of the lower quality reviewers are, but we aren’t slinging their names around now, are we?

No.

We do, however, share the names of the quality reviewers. ;)

True is true.

EEEHHHHHWWWW! Me lik-eee the neo-McCarthy name calling. Oh! We’re not talking about Cormac and his fan club are we?

I do like the idea of some sort of list I could access of blocked-users simply because I too am afflicted by the ‘tosspot’ phenomenon.

If not on the users homepage how about a quarterly/monthly/weekly notification feature under settings whereby the user could be emailed the list of blocked users. You know, out of sight, out of mind until that little email pops up periodically.

Someone said keep your friends close, and your enemies closer. So we need an icon “Enemies” next to our friends icon. But larger. Enemies of course being the people that blocked us or we them. Of course, it would be a private list. I’m not giving away my true enemies! :)
Or does that sound too hostile? Enemy is such a dirty word. Maybe adversaries? Opposing heroes?

Avatar Madame Claire 703 posts

I’m pro this idea, provided it’s private. I also think we should start to deactivate accounts automatically after a few months to prevent clog.

I would like to add my support behind the idea of seeing those who I have blocked. I think it should be a feature of our accounts just as seeing friends and fans.
I would expect this to be a list that only the account holder had access to with the ability to unblock users if required.
