For most narrative prose the HTML blog format Urbis has works well. However, in matters of screenplays and stage plays it’s terrible! There’s no way of formating the submission.

I think it would be neat if members could upload pdfs of those mediums and reviewers could download and review them.

It works on sites like Zoetrope (I don’t know how expensive it would be though).

Just a thought.

Hi james,
Yes, this is something I’ve wanted to do for sometime. It’s actually quite easy to implement pdf for viewing files. The only difficulty is counting words in pdf files (which we need to do to calculate credits for reviews). There are solutions and we’ll implement them in the near future (hopefully by the end of February).
Best,
Steve

Can I ask, if things like this are available, how would it affect the writers copyright status (I’m from the UK and am very aware that how we get/retain our copyright is very different to that in the US)

fizz_e_o,

Are you sure about that? Being from a hybrid – U.S./U.K. jurisdiction, I’m pretty sure the copyright rules are generally the same in all common law jurisdictions. I must admit I haven’t looked specifically at your rules, but our Supreme Court looks at both U.S. and U.K. decisions, and so does our Parliament in drafting. We are pretty much exactly the same as the U.S. I’d be surprised if the U.K. were significantly different.

I think it would be great to upload pdf files as to an e-book or e-document. Or could a complete Word.doc document be uploaded as well, like they do on Lulu.com.
I know in my country, (Australia) all we have to do is put a© name and year on the document to be automatic, and then develop ways to prove that the work is ours in case of a contesting.. but that was a few years ago now. I think we have to pay to use another’s material, but copyright here is automatic on our own work.
