Hey… what causes a server error? I would like specific technological details, please. Make it very very complicated.

Everything about a server (one way or another) consists of programs or data. (Excluding “parts” that might go bang). Programs can be everything from huge great processes to tiny little switch controllers.

Good programs try to catch the unexpected and deal with it.
The nature of the unexpected, however, is that you didn’t expect it and it can catch you out.

Professionals, after they have dealt with it, place that particular unexpected in the expected list.
Great professionals share their list with the world, and refer to that global list when developing their systems.

The unexpected with servers tends to be of the nature of what data, how much and how it is sent/received.
How much data is often a problem of what is called capacity planning – an art as much as a science.
It is about providing capacity while trying to keep costs low – a bit of a balancing act.

Indeed it does. I am now 100% wiser about server errors. I can see they are scurrying little insects bent on destroying all fine websites, and it is them we must fight, not the errors themselves.
